Rain
The Edenian prince with Argus's blood who sells his loyalty.
Rain is an Edenian prince who first appeared in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3's attract mode and became playable in its home version and in Mortal Kombat Trilogy (1996). He was smuggled out of Edenia when Shao Kahn took it, and later resurfaces to join Shao Kahn's invasion of Earthrealm.
Lore & Background
In Armageddon Quan Chi tells him he is a son of Argus, Edenia's protector god, and half-brother of Taven and Daegon, and he fights Taven and loses. The 2011 reboot has him orphaned in Shao Kahn's invasion, raised by Edenian rebels and betraying them when refused their leadership. In Mortal Kombat X he advises Mileena and tries to restore her to the throne. In Mortal Kombat 1 Liu Kang makes him a mortal sorcerer who becomes High Mage of Outworld's court, allies with Havik to destroy Orderrealm's capital Seido, and then gives himself up to Empress Mileena.
Reader's Guide
He is named after Prince's song 'Purple Rain'; Ed Boon, a Prince fan, also joked about which ninja color had not yet been used. After Trilogy he got designs of his own.
