Bo' Rai Cho
The drunken-boxing master from Outworld who trained Liu Kang.
Bo' Rai Cho is a martial arts master of the drunken boxing style, introduced in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance (2002). An Outworld native who opposes Shao Kahn's tyranny, he trained Liu Kang and many other Earthrealm warriors for the Mortal Kombat tournament. His attacks mostly use his weight and his bodily functions.
Lore & Background
After learning of Liu Kang's death he trains Kung Lao. In Deception he rescues Li Mei, whose soul was about to be trapped in one of the corpses of Onaga's army. Mileena, disguised as Kitana, tricks him into leading Kitana's army toward defeat by Baraka's forces, but he wins with Liu Kang's help. He returns in Mortal Kombat X, where Shinnok attacks him. In Mortal Kombat 1 the tea-house owner Madam Bo, who trained Raiden and Kung Lao, is implied to be his new-timeline counterpart.
Reader's Guide
His name plays on borracho, Spanish for 'drunk'. Ed Boon wanted a 'slob' fighter, and John Vogel saw him filling the series' 'master' role. Reception has been mostly negative, though UGO called his comic relief 'a breath of fresh air'.
