Lore & Background
A wandering fighter, he was led by a man calling himself Song to the ancient sword Sento; opening its tomb released trapped souls that blinded him, and 'Song' revealed himself as Shang Tsung, absorbed the souls and left him for dead. In Deadly Alliance he joins the Special Forces to look for Cyrax, frees Ermac from Shao Kahn's control and is taught by him to sharpen his telekinesis. In Mortal Kombat X his son Takeda is raised by Hanzo Hasashi after the Red Dragon kill Takeda's mother. In Mortal Kombat 1 he is a former yakuza member seeking Sento to free his clan, and loses his eyes saving Johnny Cage from Mileena.
Reader's Guide
Early sketches called him 'the Kenshi' (swordsman), and he was first named 'Blind Gi'. He was meant to replace Ermac as the series' psychokinetic fighter, with a sword added to channel his power. He is often called the best character of the series' 3D era.
