Lore & Background

The story picks up straight after Deadly Alliance, whose plan has worked: Raiden's warriors were killed in their tournament, which served as cover while Shang Tsung and Quan Chi gathered enough souls to raise the Invincible Army. Raiden, the only survivor, fights both sorcerers and loses. The alliance then breaks up as the two turn on each other over Shinnok's amulet, which controls the army, and Quan Chi finds that Onaga, the former emperor of Outworld, has also been brought back. Quan Chi, Shang Tsung and Raiden team up against Onaga, but Raiden's final act, a huge explosion of all his power, destroys both sorcerers, the palace and himself while barely touching Onaga.
