Dennis Muren
The ILM effects supervisor who led Jurassic Park's computer-generated dinosaurs.
Dennis Muren (born November 1, 1946) is an American visual effects artist and supervisor who has worked on films by George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and James Cameron. He has won nine Oscars: eight for Best Visual Effects and one Technical Achievement Award.
At Industrial Light & Magic he oversaw the computer-generated dinosaurs of Jurassic Park (1993). Spielberg had planned to use go-motion, but a CG test of a walking T. rex skeleton made by ILM's Steve Williams and Mark Dippe persuaded Universal to fund a photo-real proof of concept. The result convinced George Lucas that technology was ready for the Star Wars prequels, and inspired Peter Jackson's plans for The Lord of the Rings.
