John Williams

Composer and conductor of the Jurassic Park score.

John Williams composed and conducted the score for Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park (1993), performed by the Hollywood Studio Symphony. He began writing it at the end of February 1993 and it was conducted a month later; a back injury during the sessions meant Artie Kane conducted several cues. Williams worked at Skywalker Ranch alongside the sound editing and took inspiration from Gary Rydstrom's dinosaur sounds, calling the job "a massive job of symphonic cartooning".

As with Close Encounters of the Third Kind, he wanted pieces that conveyed awe and fascination at seeing live dinosaurs. MCA Records released the soundtrack album on May 25, 1993, with later expanded editions from Geffen (2013) and La-La Land Records (2016). The score was critically acclaimed and is often counted among the most beloved of his career.
