Meruem
The Chimera Ant King, changed by a blind girl's mastery of Gungi.
Meruem is the Chimera Ant King and the most powerful of the Queen's offspring. He forces his way out of the womb at the cost of the Queen's life and starts out arrogant, with little sense of self beyond his supposed destiny and a belief that his kind is superior to humans.
Lore & Background
Meruem's Nen ability, Aura Synthesis, lets him take in the aura of the creatures he eats and grow stronger. He becomes interested in strategy games and beats champion players by learning their tactics, but he cannot beat Komugi, a blind girl who reigns over the game Gungi. His respect and care for her lead him to question his violent rule.
Meruem leaves the N.G.L. with his Royal Guards and takes over the Republic of East Gorteau, where the Hunter Association sends a team to assassinate him. Torn between human feeling and instinct, he settles on conquering the planet while sparing humans in reservations. Netero's bomb leaves him near death; he regenerates by eating Pouf and Youpi's cells, but the bomb's poison kills him, and he spends his last moments playing Gungi with Komugi before dying in her arms.
