Home of the Kurta clan, wiped out by the Phantom Troupe for their scarlet eyes.
The Kurta clan was a people whose irises turn scarlet in moments of anger or emotional turmoil. Four years before the series the entire clan was murdered by the Phantom Troupe, who took the scarlet eyes from the bodies and sold them on the black market.
Lore & Background
Kurapika is the sole survivor. He takes the Hunter Exam to become a Blacklist Hunter with the resources to avenge his people and recover their eyes. Chrollo led the massacre; the members who joined later, Shizuku, Hisoka, Kalluto and Illumi, took no part in it.
Collectors of the eyes include the occult-obsessed Neon Nostrade and Prince Tserriednich of Kakin, who keeps several among his collection of human body parts. Kurapika boards the Black Whale as Prince Woble's bodyguard to reclaim them from Tserriednich.
