Sir Pentious

A Victorian cobra inventor who went from Vox's spy to the first sinner ever redeemed.

Pendleton "Sir Pentious" is an anthropomorphic cobra demon from the Victorian era and a skilled inventor in Hazbin Hotel, voiced by Will Stamper in the pilot and Alex Brightman in the series. Introduced attacking the hotel, he is later recruited by Vox to spy on Alastor from inside it, is caught and unceremoniously fired, and accepts Charlie's offer of a second chance to become the hotel's first official patron. His small, sentient egg minions, the "Egg Boiz", serve him loyally.

Background

In the 2019 pilot Alastor fends off an attack by Sir Pentious while renovating the hotel. In "Radio Killed the Video Star" he attacks again, is sent in as the Vees' spy, is exposed, and is given a second chance by Charlie, touched by her compassion. He develops feelings for Cherri Bomb. In "The Show Must Go On" he sacrifices himself to stop Adam and is redeemed and sent to Heaven. The second season follows him trying to contact his friends in Hell and, with the seraphim Sera, proving to all of Hell through a broadcast from Heaven that redemption is possible; it also reveals the sin that condemned him: doing nothing to prevent a former client from murdering a woman, and staying silent when the client killed five more. He was once a lab partner of the sinner Baxter before they split over ethical disagreements.

Sir Pentious is bisexual. In "Scrambled Eggs" he is still building weapons with parts bought from Carmilla Carmine, convinced the residents' kindness must be a trap, until Vaggie bans weapons in the hotel; in the same episode she asks Alastor to look after his egg minions, who end up spying on Carmilla for him.
