The Forerunner who protected ancient humanity and imprisoned the Didact.
The Librarian is a Forerunner introduced in Halo 4, the wife of the Didact and ancient humanity's protector. When the Didact forcibly converted captured humans into Prometheans, she stopped and imprisoned him.
Lore & Background
In Halo 4 the Master Chief is contacted by the Librarian on Requiem, and she accelerates his evolution to grant him immunity to the Composer. In Spartan Ops both the UNSC and Jul 'Mdama's Covenant search Requiem for a copy of her; she is presumed to have died when the Halo Array fired, but uploaded copies of her personality to help humanity assume the Forerunners' Mantle of Responsibility.
