The Planet's lifeforce, a flow of spiritual energy that Shinra processes into Mako.
The Lifestream is the Planet's lifeforce in Final Fantasy VII: a flow of spiritual energy that gives life to everything on the Planet. Its processed form is known as Mako, and the Shinra Electric Power Company drains it for energy, weakening the Planet.
Lore & Background
The Cetra maintain a strong connection to the Planet and the Lifestream, and Shinra captures Aerith in the hope that she can reveal the Promised Land, which it believes overflows with Lifestream energy. The game's green colouring represents both the lighting of Midgar and the colour of the Lifestream.
Sephiroth plans to absorb the Lifestream as it heals the wound caused by Meteor and become a god-like being. Cloud falls into the Lifestream after Sephiroth summons Meteor, and later, when the planetary defence force Weapon attacks the island where he is recovering, he and Tifa fall in again and she helps him rebuild his memories. In the end Holy, with the Lifestream's help, destroys Meteor.
