The Buu Saga

When magic unravels martial arts, one monster threatens to unmake existence itself.

The Buu Saga shatters the mold of Dragon Ball, trading tournament brackets for existential horror. It introduces Majin Buu, a primordial entity of pure magical destruction awakened by the sorcerer Babidi after millennia of slumber. The narrative pivots from traditional martial arts rivalries to high-stakes cosmic survival as Earth faces annihilation by a shapeshifting monster capable of absorbing warriors and escalating his power with terrifying speed.

Quick Facts

Primary antagonist
Majin Buu

Lore & Background

Long ago, Majin Buu reached the world of the Kais, where he killed two of the five Supreme Kais, before being sealed away by the warlock Bibidi. Millennia later, the wizard Babidi and his servant Dabura sought to revive this ultimate weapon to conquer the universe. Babidi's mind-controlled warriors collected energy for Buu's revival, and Babidi later enlisted Vegeta, who willingly fell under his control in order to gain power. The resulting Majin Buu displayed a childlike innocence masking an insatiable hunger for destruction, capable of turning humans into candy or absorbing them to steal their strength and memories. The saga turns on Buu's forms: the fat Buu is the result of the original Majin Buu, known as Kid Buu, absorbing the Grand Supreme Kai, while Super Buu is described as pure rage.
