The Battle of Gods Arc
A god awakens, a mortal rises, and the fate of Earth hangs on a single punch.
The Battle of Gods Arc shatters the Dragon Ball universe's established power ceiling, introducing threats that transcend mortal limits entirely. After the defeat of Majin Buu, Earth faces a new peril: Beerus, the God of Destruction, who destroys planets at a whim. At the heart of this struggle is the Super Saiyan God ritual, a transformation born from unity rather than rage, offering humanity its only chance to stand toe-to-toe with a deity capable of erasing existence.

Lore & Background
Even the crimson radiance of Super Saiyan God proved fleeting against Beerus’s casual dominance. Destruction was averted not by a finishing blow: having enjoyed the match, Beerus spared both Goku and the Earth. He said that Goku was the second strongest opponent he had ever faced, the first being his caretaker and martial arts teacher, Whis.
Reader's Guide
Awakening from a 39-year sleep, Beerus goes in search of the Super Saiyan God he saw in a dream and arrives on Earth during Bulma's birthday party. On Earth, Shenron reveals that the form needs the power of six pure-hearted Saiyans; Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Trunks, Goten and Videl's unborn child channel their energy together, and Goku ascends to Super Saiyan God. Initially overwhelmed by Beerus's effortless power, Goku exhausts the transformation but persists in base form with lingering godly ki. Having enjoyed the match, Beerus spares Goku and the Earth.
