Babidi & Majin Buu Saga

Chaos masked as innocence: when an ancient nightmare sheds its shell to test heroism.

Closing the original Dragon Ball Z series, this saga trades martial arts grandeur for magical horror. After a brief respite following Cell's defeat, sorcerer Babidi arrives with his demon servant Dabura to resurrect Majin Buu—a sealed evil from millennia ago.

Lore & Background

The saga dissects power and corruption through Babidi's 'Majin' brand, which exploits Vegeta's buried pride to turn him against his allies. Buu's original form is the feral Kid Buu; in this saga the fat Buu expels the evil inside him, which takes shape as a taller and much skinnier Evil Buu. Evil Buu then absorbs his benign counterpart, creating the monstrous Super Buu.

Reader's Guide

Goku transforms into Super Saiyan 3, the form that follows Super Saiyan 2, though the energy it spends cuts short his remaining time on Earth. Super Buu absorbs Gotenks and Piccolo, and then Gohan, growing stronger. Goku persuades the newly arrived Vegeta to fuse with him, creating Vegito, and the two later retrieve their absorbed allies from inside Buu. The saga resolves with a final clash: Goku constructs a massive Spirit Bomb using Earth's energy, vanquishing the remaining threat.
