Other World Tournament Arc
An afterlife tournament where Goku meets his match in Pikkon.
Following his self-sacrifice during the Cell Games, Goku takes part in the Other World Tournament, a martial arts competition in the afterlife held in honor of the recently deceased North Kai. The Other World Tournament Arc acts as a narrative bridge to the Buu Saga, gathering powerful warriors from across the cosmos and the living world. This interlude lets Goku compete against new acquaintances like Pikkon, a warrior from the west quadrant.

Reader's Guide
The arc begins shortly after the Cell Games, where the living world mourns the loss of its savior. Meanwhile, in Other World, Goku is recruited by King Kai to participate in a tournament hosted by Grand Kai. Goku reaches the semi-finals along with Tolby from the south and Maraiko and Pikkon from the west, and defeats Maraiko. The climax sees Goku face Pikkon in the final: Pikkon takes off his weighted training clothes, and Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan. It seems that Goku has won, but the Grand Kai reveals that both Goku and Pikkon touched the ceiling, which disqualifies them both.
