Whis is an Angel serving as the personal attendant and teacher to Beerus, the God of Destruction for Universe 7. He appears in Dragon Ball Super, which began airing on Fuji Television in July 2015, as the Angel who travels with Beerus across the cosmos. Unlike his master, Whis maintains a calm demeanor even when threatening destruction is discussed. He plays a role in the series' early arcs, accompanying Beerus to Earth in search of the Super Saiyan God. His presence marks the beginning of a new storyline for the franchise after an 18-year gap since Dragon Ball Z.

Whis is the younger brother of Vados, who serves Champa, Beerus's twin brother. He is consistently depicted as unmatched in power, and Beerus names him the strongest opponent he ever faced. During the Universe 6 Saga, he travels alongside Beerus when they are visited by Champa and Vados for a tournament against Universe 7. He holds the unique ability to reverse time, a power demonstrated during the Golden Frieza Saga. When Frieza destroyed the Earth after his defeat, Whis utilized this capability to rewind events, allowing Goku to secure victory without the planet's destruction.

Whis serves as the primary trainer for Goku and Vegeta following their introduction to God Ki.
