Whis is identified as the older brother of Vados, who serves Champa, Beerus's twin brother. He acts as a neutral observer to maintain cosmic balance but possesses power that far exceeds his charge, Beerus. During the Universe 6 Saga, he travels alongside Beerus when they are visited by Champa and Vados for a tournament against Universe 7. Whis is bound by Angelic duties yet remains deeply involved in the training of Earth's defenders. He holds the unique ability to reverse time, a power demonstrated during the Golden Frieza Saga. When Frieza destroyed the Earth after his defeat, Whis utilized this capability to rewind events, allowing Goku to secure victory without the planet's destruction.

In Their Own Story

In the God of Destruction Beerus Saga, which retells the film Battle of Gods (2013), Whis arrives on Earth with Beerus. He observes as Goku, initially a farmer, gathers six pure-hearted Saiyans to achieve the Super Saiyan God transformation. After Goku loses to Beerus but earns his respect, Whis invites the Saiyan and Vegeta to train on their world. During the Golden Frieza Saga, while Goku and Vegeta master Super Saiyan Blue under his tutelage, the remnants of the Frieza Force resurrect their leader. Frieza returns seeking revenge, achieving a Golden transformation. Despite being defeated by the trained Saiyans, Frieza destroys Earth in spite. Whis immediately reverses time to undo this catastrophe, enabling Goku to defeat Frieza permanently.

Whis serves as the primary trainer for Goku and Vegeta following their introduction to God Ki.
