The Super Saiyan transformation is a legendary state of power in the Dragon Ball universe, first attained by Goku in his battle with Frieza; the 1993 film Dragon Ball Z: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan centers on another such warrior. In this narrative, the existence of such a warrior is confirmed when King Kai senses the destruction of an entire galaxy—the South Galaxy—by a single individual possessing this might. The threat is so severe that the North Galaxy is immediately targeted next. This state is characterized by a terrifying escalation in power, with one specific instance involving a Saiyan named Broly who was born with a documented power level of 10,000. Broly grew unstable and sadistic as he aged.

The infant Broly's power was feared by King Vegeta. Paragus reveals that his son, Broly, was born with a power level of 10,000, causing King Vegeta to order his execution immediately. Paragus failed to persuade the king to spare the child and was instead stabbed in the abdomen, left for dead alongside his infant son on their home planet. Coincidentally, Frieza destroyed that same planet on that very day while Bardock attempted a futile defense. Broly's survival instincts triggered a protective shield around him and his father, allowing them to escape into space. Paragus eventually had to use a specialized mind-control device synced to Broly's headband to keep him pacified, fearing that Broly's violent Saiyan instincts were merely waiting for the right trigger to emerge.
