Justice League
DC's all-star team, assembled when one hero is not enough.
The Justice League, also called the Justice League of America (JLA), is DC Comics' all-star superhero team. It debuted in The Brave and the Bold #28 (March 1960), conceived by writer Gardner Fox as a revival of the 1940s Justice Society of America; editor Julius Schwartz picked "League" because he felt it would appeal to young readers, like a sports league. Its members usually work alone and assemble to face villains too powerful for any one of them. The first lineup brought together seven heroes then appearing regularly, among them Superman, Batman, Aquaman, the Flash, Green Lantern and the Martian Manhunter. The team soon had its own best-selling series, which led DC to create other teams such as the Teen Titans, and the League helped turn DC's characters into one shared universe.
