Batman
Gotham's vigilante without superpowers, sworn never to kill.
Batman is the costumed identity of Bruce Wayne, a wealthy Gotham City resident who turned the childhood trauma of watching his parents, Thomas and Martha, being murdered into a lifelong war on crime. Writer Bill Finger and artist Bob Kane created him for DC Comics, and he debuted in Detective Comics #27 on March 30, 1939. He has no superpowers: he relies on his intellect, his fighting skills, a bat-themed arsenal and his family fortune, and he refuses to kill or to use guns. His allies include Robin, Batgirl, Alfred Pennyworth and James Gordon, Catwoman is both love interest and occasional foe, and his enemies include the Penguin, the Riddler, Two-Face and his archenemy, the Joker. DC has treated him as its flagship character since the 1990s, and he also serves with Superman and Wonder Woman in teams such as the Justice League and the Outsiders.
