Suicide Squad
Supervillains sent on deniable missions in exchange for shorter sentences.
The Suicide Squad, also known as Task Force X, is a DC Comics black-ops unit. The first version debuted in The Brave and the Bold #25 (September 1959): a World War II squad of soldiers with criminal records, led by Captain Rick Flag. John Ostrander's modern version began in Legends #3 (January 1987), when Amanda Waller reworked the idea into a team of supervillains used as deniable, expendable assets in return for shorter sentences, with explosives implanted to keep them in line. The roster changes constantly, but regulars include Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, El Diablo, Enchantress, Harley Quinn and King Shark, with Bronze Tiger, Katana and Rick Flag serving by choice. The team has been adapted in animation, in DC Extended Universe films and in the game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
