Keith Shadis is the instructor in charge of training the 104th Corps recruits. Before Wall Maria fell in 845 he was the 12th Commander of the Survey Corps.

Background
As commander he tried and failed to set up a base outside the Walls. After one especially punishing expedition he broke down and handed his post to Erwin Smith, the first commander to pass it on without dying. He was close to Eren's parents and secretly loved Carla, and after the fall of Shiganshina he was the one who found Eren deep in the forest and brought him back to safety.
