Karl Fritz
The pacifist king who moved Eldia's capital to Paradis and wiped his subjects' memories.
Karl Fritz is a descendant of Ymir Fritz, the 145th king of Eldia and the first King of the Walls of Paradis. A pacifist by nature who inherited the Founding Titan, he detested his ancestors for the atrocities they had caused and for the civil war among the other Eldian houses, and this led him to engineer Eldia's downfall together with the Tybur family.
Lore & Background
While the Tyburs used the oppressed people of Marley to stage the Great Titan War and became the ruling government, Karl secretly moved the capital to the eastern island of Paradis. Once Shiganshina was established, he used the Founding Titan's power to wipe the memories of every Subject of Ymir, intending to separate his people from the rest of the world so they could live in peace. Some Eldians turned out to be immune: he had the Ackermans who served his family persecuted, while others who were compelled were rewarded with nobility.
Reader's Guide
Karl lived on through the Founding Titan, influencing the successors who shared his blood. He established the Reiss family to continue his line, and his heirs maintained the ceasefire between Paradis and Marley, with Historia as his last living heir. Relatives who stayed in Marley dwindled until Zeke Yeager was the last of that line; Zeke hid it from the Marleyans to keep his freedom and later used it to nullify Karl's influence.
Generations later, Historia refuses to become a Titan and take the Founding Titan's power after learning of its curse of renouncing war, the shackles laid on it by the 145th King Fritz.
