Background

Nobody officially oversees the squad and it acts as if above the law; even Nile Dok is often unaware of its actions until told by someone else, who turns out to be Rod Reiss. Shrouded in mystery, it is involved in numerous conspiracies, torture and assassinations to keep order within the Walls, and it is rarely seen outside the capital. Most of its operatives die during the conflict with Rod Reiss, and the rest are restrained by soldiers loyal to Dot Pyxis and Dhalis Zachary.

Kenny Ackerman, serving directly under the Reiss family, leads its Anti-Personnel Control Squad, an elite counterinsurgency unit armed with Vertical Maneuvering Equipment and slug guns built for killing humans. Once the hitman "Kenny the Ripper", he murdered Historia's mother Alma, is Levi's maternal uncle and raised him for a time, and pledged loyalty to Uri after an attempt to assassinate him, once Uri expressed resentment at the Ackermans' persecution. He ambushes Levi's team after the Female Titan incident, kidnaps Eren and Historia on Rod's orders, then betrays Rod by partly freeing Eren; fatally injured when the chapel collapses, he reveals his kinship to Levi and hands him the Titan serum later used to save Armin at Shiganshina.

Traute Carven is Kenny's loyal second-in-command, killed when the cave beneath the Reiss chapel collapses. Djel Sanes is the operative who tells the Survey Corps that Minister Nick was killed by a robber, until Hange works out from the skin ripped from his fist that Sanes and his partner tortured and murdered Nick.
