Development

Toys for Bob, the team behind the 2018 Spyro Reignited Trilogy, is developing Spyro: A Realm Beyond. After Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard in October 2023, both the studio and the Spyro franchise came under Xbox ownership. In February 2024, Toys for Bob announced it would split off as an independent studio, leaving Activision and Xbox. Studio heads Paul Yan and Avery Lodato explained that this change would let the company return to a smaller, more flexible development style, though they expected to keep working with Microsoft. A publishing deal with Xbox for the next game was revealed in May 2024, but the project was still in early stages. By April 2025, Yan called the game "big and ambitious" and said development was on track. Toys for Bob credited the "loud and consistent" fanbase of the Reignited Trilogy for inspiring their return to Spyro. To stay within budget and schedule, the studio carefully managed scope creep. The game runs on Unreal Engine 5. Tom Kenny, who first voiced Spyro in 1999's Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!, will reprise the role.
