Biography
The first person to use the name Arrowette, also called Miss Arrowette, was Bonnie King. She was a would-be sidekick who mostly just annoyed Green Arrow. As a child, her mother Millie controlled her life and pushed her into archery training. Bonnie made it to the Olympic Games and won a bronze medal, but her mother was disappointed she did not get gold.
Bonnie wanted to become Green Arrow's sidekick using her archery skills, but she was too clumsy to succeed as a hero. For a short time, she dated Green Arrow when he was in his civilian identity, Oliver Queen. She later met Bernell Jones, a journalist who remembered her from the Olympics and was likely the only person who saw her as a star. She gave him the nickname Bowstring because he was very thin, and she briefly made him her sidekick so he would write about her in his journal.
Eventually, Green Arrow convinced her to stop trying to be a hero. Bonnie had to give up archery because she was too busy working as a secretary and had developed carpal tunnel syndrome. She convinced Bernell to marry her, and a year later they had a daughter named Cissie. Five years after that, Bernell died from fish poisoning.
Hal Jordan gave Bonnie and Cissie a beneficiary check, which Bonnie used to train Cissie in athletics. Cissie was pushed too hard in many different sports and grew to deeply resent her mother. Forced by Bonnie to wear a version of her old costume, Suzanne "Cissie" King-Jones became the second Arrowette. She first appeared in the comic Impulse, wearing a frilly costume and a bejeweled mask that copied her mother's old outfit.
Even though Arrowette was a successful heroine, Impulse's mentor Max Mercury worried that Bonnie was exploiting her daughter. Child welfare services got involved, and Bonnie lost custody of Cissie, who was sent to the Elias School for Girls, a boarding school. Arrowette later appeared in the series Young Justice, where the villain Harm injured her. She escaped and contacted the team, eventually joining it alongside Wonder Girl (Cassie Sandsmark) and Secret (Greta Hayes).
After her school therapist, one of the few adults Cissie trusted, was murdered, Cissie hunted down the killers in a violent rage. She almost killed one of them herself, but Superboy stopped her. The experience shook Cissie so badly that she swore she would never be Arrowette again.
