Fictional character biography

Traci Thirteen comes from the Homo magi bloodline, meaning she was born with natural magical abilities. Her father, Doctor Thirteen, forbids her from using magic because he blames it for the death of her mother. Wanting to live on her own terms, Traci moves to Metropolis’s Suicide Slum with her pet iguana, Leeroy. There, she learns to tap into the city’s “urban magic,” takes the name Girl 13, and starts acting as a local superhero. She meets Superboy, Conner Kent, who develops a crush on her, but she does not feel the same way.

During the events of the Day of Vengeance: Infinite Crisis Special, Traci teams up with a huge group of mystical heroes—including Doctor Occult, the Phantom Stranger, and even Rex the Wonder Dog—to clean up after one of the Spectre’s rampages. The Rock of Eternity had exploded over Gotham City, releasing all kinds of magical horrors. The group manages to rebuild the rock and trap the demons again.

Traci lives with her father at Doomsbury Mansion, the family’s ancestral home, and finds his constant skepticism and dull outlook irritating. Blue Beetle #16 reveals that after her mother died, Traci was raised and trained by Ralph Dibny and his wife Sue. She later becomes a member of the Croatoans, the paranormal detective organization featured in 52. She travels the world fighting supernatural threats, sometimes with her father and sometimes alone, as her magical skills grow.

More recently, Traci has begun a romantic relationship with Jaime Reyes, the current Blue Beetle. Because Jaime joins the Teen Titans full-time, she starts spending time with his teammates, including during a Christmas adventure. At first, Red Devil, Eddie, is annoyed by her presence because he thinks she distracts his new friend Blue Beetle. But after Traci buys him a bunch of video games he really wanted, Eddie quickly accepts her.

She even appears on the cover of Teen Titans vol. 3 #66 as a possible new member. However, she decides not to join, thinking it would be too strange to be on a team with her boyfriend, even though she admits it would be fun to mess with his head. Still, she remains an ally of the Titans and helps them when needed—most notably during a prison riot caused by Shimmer and Jinx, where she uses her magic to cut off Jinx’s connection to the Earth and break her barrier spell.

Other versions

A character named Terri Thirteen was briefly part of the Croatoan Society in the series 52. Editorial oversight likely caused the name mix-up, with the intended character being Traci. In the 2011 Flashpoint crossover, Traci saves her father from Paris just before the Atlanteans destroy it, though she carries guilt over failing to rescue her mother and siblings. She learns that her father and other superheroes globally are planning extreme measures to halt the Amazons and Atlanteans.

Still aware of how reality should be, she seeks guidance from Madame Xanadu. When she attempts to prevent the heroes from launching nuclear weapons, her father drugs her and begins the countdown. Traci teleports away to find help but returns unsuccessful, facing her father. Doctor Thirteen attacks her with black magic, a skill he apparently acquired.

Unable to defeat him, Traci decides to teleport to Western Europe to sacrifice herself. Doctor Thirteen arrives and finally accepts her back. However, Amazons impale Traci, enraging her father, who goes on a killing spree. Her spiritual connection to Earth restores her to life, and she stops her father by showing him the planetary consciousness.

As the nuclear weapons are about to activate, Doctor Thirteen uses his magic to destroy them. Traci rescues him and teleports them back to Earth. It is then revealed that both have exhausted all their magic.

In other media

Traci Thirteen, also known as Traci Thurston, was voiced by Lauren Tom in the animated series Young Justice. She first appeared in season three as a member of the Team and in a romantic relationship with Jaime Reyes. By season four, she had become a student of Zatanna and joined the Sentinels of Magic, where the group took turns wearing the helmet of Doctor Fate as part of a rotation deal between Zatanna and Nabu. In October 2017, The CW announced a one-hour drama called Project 13 about Traci and her father Dr. Terrance Thirteen, with Elizabeth Banks executive producing, but the show was never made. Traci Thirteen also appeared in the film Teen Titans: The Judas Contract, voiced by Masasa Moyo, where she worked at a soup kitchen. Additionally, she was a character summon in the video game Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure.
