Fictional character biography

Selinda and her younger brother Baran (the supervillain Mammoth) are originally from Australia. Teased by classmates for being different, they used their metahuman powers to fight their tormentors, only to be driven out of town by angry and frightened parents. Their parents sent them to Markovia, where scientist Helga Jace tried to teach them morality, but they turned to crime instead. Shimmer joined the Fearsome Five after answering an ad in the Underworld Star placed by Doctor Light.

The group fought the Teen Titans and Superman. Shimmer later renounced crime and retired with Baran to a monastery in Tibet, where former teammate Psimon killed her by transforming her body into glass. Doctor Sivana later assembled a new Fearsome Five including Mammoth, promising to resurrect Shimmer. Sivana had Psimon reassemble the shards of her glass body and used super-science to restore her to life.

In The New 52 continuity reboot, Shimmer was reintroduced as a member of the Fearsome Five and the Secret Society and an ally of the Crime Syndicate of America.
