The world's greatest tragedy occurred during the Horus Heresy when the Chaos forces, led by the traitor Legion the Word Bearers and supported by the Thousand Sons, laid siege to Prospero. The ensuing conflict saw the destruction of much of its infrastructure and the burning of countless libraries as the Dark Eldar and Chaos sorcerers sought to erase its history. Despite the devastation and the temporary loss of Guilliman to a stasis tomb, the world eventually fell back into Imperial hands, though it remained a scarred testament to the cost of the civil war.
