Lore & Background

In a conspiracy carried out by followers of Chaos, Horus is mortally wounded on a Crusade mission by a Chaos-tainted xenos weapon. His lieutenants take him, against Imperial doctrine, to a temple known for healing, which turns out to be the seat of a Chaos cult; the wound and its cure leave him open to Chaos. He then secretly plans rebellion, winning allies among discontented Primarchs and their Legions, and his revolt becomes the galaxy-wide civil war of the 31st millennium known as the Horus Heresy. His flagship is the Vengeful Spirit.
