1922 Tour de France
Alavoine, Christophe and Heusghem all led; Lambot took it at Dunkerque.
The 1922 Tour de France was the 16th edition, held from 25 June to 23 July over fifteen stages and 5,375 km, and was won by the Belgian Firmin Lambot, who had also won in 1919. Jean Alavoine took the lead with three straight stage wins in the Pyrenees, at Bayonne, Luchon and Perpignan, and was more than 22 minutes clear at Briançon, but cold weather and mechanical problems on the stage to Geneva undid him. Hector Heusghem, second the two previous years, then broke his bicycle on the road to Metz and made a forbidden bike change, for which he was docked an hour and dropped to fourth. Lambot, at one point 48 minutes behind Eugène Christophe, took over the lead at Dunkerque and rode on to Paris.
