1932 Tour de France
Leducq's second Tour, won on bonuses by a margin that was really three seconds.
The 1932 Tour de France was the 26th edition, held from 6 to 31 July over 21 stages and 4,479 km. André Leducq won the race and six stages, but he owed the victory to the bonus system: without the time bonuses his margin over Kurt Stöpel would have been three seconds. The bonuses had been enlarged that year to four minutes for a stage winner, two for second and one for third, plus three more for a winning margin over three minutes, to give sprinters who lost time in the mountains a chance in the overall. The stage count fell from 24 to 21 with the average stage still about 215 km, and the race was run for the third year by national teams, with Belgium, Italy, Switzerland and France sending eight riders each.
