Lore & Background
Maggie's ascent began in the shadow of her family's loss at the Greene farm. After the deaths of her father and sister and the murder of her husband Glenn by Negan, she found a home at the Hilltop Colony. Her leadership began when, after Gregory's betrayal of his people, Jesus proclaimed her the Hilltop's new leader; Gregory was later hanged for his attempt on her life. Her tenure is marked by resilience and strategic alliances. She played a crucial role in uniting Alexandria, the Kingdom, and Hilltop into a Coalition to fight common enemies. The loss of Glenn haunted her decisions, yet it fueled an unyielding drive to protect the innocent. After the Whisperers damaged the Hilltop beyond repair, she relocated the community to a rural factory complex.
Reader's Guide
Maggie leads by example: in the war against the Saviors she encourages the people of the Hilltop to follow Rick instead of Gregory and Negan, and she trains its residents, teaching them how to throw knives, until they come to view her as their leader. After the war she has a son, Hershel, named after her father. In the spin-off Dead City she goes to Manhattan with Negan.
