SAM is a companion in The Outer Worlds: a Sanitation and Maintenance automechanical found switched off aboard the Unreliable, near the crew bunks. Once repaired, it fights by spraying acid.

Background
The Unreliable's previous captain, Alex Hawthorne, found SAM in Emerald Vale's scrapheap during a job and brought it aboard intending to modify it. He removed its standard S.U.D.S. steeper and ordered an acid steeper, but the delivery was months late, so he arranged to steal one from an old storage facility in Roseway - a plan cut short by his death. Getting SAM running is the quest The Cleaning Machine. In the party it raises the player's Intimidate, Hack and Science skills, and its special attack is Decontaminate. It is voiced by Bruce Dinsmore.
