Lore & Background

Sidon is the son of King Dorephan and next in line to rule Zora's Domain. Due to the slow aging rate of the Zora race, he remains considered a young man despite being over 100 years old. His Japanese name, Shido (シド), is derived from the solfege notes 'ti' and 'do,' creating a musical pair with his sister Mipha's name, which comes from 'mi' and 'fa.' These notes were intentionally used by sound director Hajime Wakai and composer Yasuaki Iwata as leitmotifs for the siblings. In Breath of the Wild, Sidon helps Link reach Divine Beast Vah Ruta to defeat Waterblight Ganon. He is depicted mourning his sister Mipha at her memorial statue in Zora's Domain during the night, revealing a deep respect and emotional bond with the deceased Champion.

In Their Own Story

In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Link reaches Zora's Domain where Sidon greets him warmly, holding him in high regard. Together they defeat Waterblight Ganon and regain control of Divine Beast Vah Ruta. A flashback memory titled 'Champion Mipha's Song' from The Champion's Ballad DLC shows a baby Sidon with Mipha. In Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, set 100 years before Breath of the Wild, an adult Sidon travels from the future to defend his younger self and Mipha against Waterblight Ganon, declaring he will not let her be taken again. In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, between games, Sidon is revealed to have a fiancée named Yona. After the Upheaval causes Sky Islands to appear, Link and Sidon head to the Water Temple to defeat Mucktorok. Sidon receives a Secret Stone from the ancient Sage of Water, and upon their return, King Dorephan abdicates the throne, passing it to a reluctant Sidon.

Reader's Guide

Sidon appears as a playable character in Age of Calamity, wielding various spears and tridents while using water attacks. In Tears of the Kingdom, he serves as the Sage of Water, possessing the unique ability to wrap Link in an orb of water that creates a wave when Link brandishes a weapon. His design features a red or dark pink coloration with a tail fin sprouting from his head, and he wears items reflecting his royal status such as a scarf, epaulettes, bracelets, and belt. He is voiced by Kosuke Onishi in Japanese and James D. Mortellaro in English across Breath of the Wild and Age of Calamity. His friendly, brave, and optimistic personality, often reflected in his tendency to strike poses, has earned him a large fan following, with many fans treating him like a heart-throb due to his smile and physique.
