Calamity Ganon is a grotesque monster that first manifests as a massive, bestial creature with multiple limbs and weapons, later transforming into a cocoon-like form with spider-like legs. It serves as the physical form of a primal evil force visible as a serpentine cloud circling Hyrule Castle. This entity represents Hatred and Malice Incarnate within The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Unlike previous iterations where Ganondorf acts as a cunning ruler or king, this manifestation is described as a mindless force that almost wiped out the entire civilization of Hyrule in a cataclysm known as the Great Calamity.

In Breath of the Wild, Ganon evolves into monstrous forms distinct from his traditional porcine or Gerudo appearances. He manifests as a primal evil force visible as a serpentine cloud circling around Hyrule Castle before taking physical shape as Calamity Ganon. In Breath of the Wild, his Dark Beast Ganon form is described as "Hatred and Malice Incarnate". The entity's destructive power was so great that it transformed a peaceful kingdom into a place of fear shrouded in darkness. Artist Yuki Hamada explained that his enormous size as Dark Beast Ganon, a giant boar similar to previous iterations, was due to the team wanting the game to end in the vast open plain of Hyrule Field.
