Lore & Background

Miyamoto based it partly on the Kyoto countryside of his childhood and worked out the first map with Takashi Tezuka on long sheets of paper. The original overworld is a grid of 128 screens, 16 wide and eight high, built to reward exploration. Ocarina of Time took Hyrule into 3D and gave races such as the Gorons, Zora and Gerudo their own history and culture. Recurring places include Hyrule Castle, the Lost Woods, Kakariko Village, Death Mountain and Lake Hylia.
