The Seam

The Seam is the poorest part of District 12, where Katniss lives with her mother and sister. People from the Seam are usually described with dark hair, olive skin and grey eyes, unlike the fair-haired merchant families of the town such as Peeta's. Gale also comes from the Seam, which lets people pass him off as Katniss's cousin. Katniss's mother left her merchant-class life to marry Katniss's father and live there in poverty.
