Sonny Corleone's Death at Toll Booth

Sonny Corleone's ambush and murder at a highway toll booth.

During the war between the families, Sonny learns that Carlo Rizzi has been abusing Connie and beats him in public. After another beating, Connie calls the family, and Sonny drives off to her house but is ambushed and killed at a highway toll booth. Michael later extracts a confession from Carlo that he conspired with Barzini and abused Connie to lure Sonny into the trap. The scene was shot on a runway at Mitchel Field in Uniondale, where three toll booths were built; Sonny's car was a 1941 Lincoln Continental drilled to look bullet-riddled, and the scene took three days and over $100,000 to film.
