The lore surrounding Jauffre centers on his duty as Grandmaster of the Blades, an order sworn to protect the Emperor and the Amulet of Kings. When Emperor Uriel Septim VII was murdered by assassins from the Mythic Dawn cult, the covenant keeping the Daedra out of Tamriel was broken because there was no heir on the throne. Jauffre, voiced by Ralph Cosham in the game, immediately entrusted the fleeing player with the Amulet and ordered them to locate Martin Septim at Weynon Priory. He is a veteran leader who understands that the survival of the Empire depends on finding the last bloodline. He is the grandmaster of the Blades and was present when Uriel Septim died, entrusting the player with the Amulet of Kings to ensure the lineage continued.

In Their Own Story

The story begins in a prison cell where Emperor Uriel Septim VII arrives accompanied by Imperial bodyguards known as the Blades. The emperor reveals that the player's cell contains a secret entrance to the city's sewers, an escape route from assassins who have already murdered the emperor's three sons. As they flee into the sewer, they are attacked by the same assassins, and the captain of the Blades is cut down during the fighting. Knowing he is destined to die, Uriel Septim entrusts the Amulet of Kings to the player and orders them to take it to Jauffre. Immediately afterward, one of the assassins kills the emperor. The player escapes into Cyrodiil and eventually finds Jauffre at Weynon Priory, where he confirms the threat and directs the player to secure Martin Septim.
