Jauffre
Grandmaster of the Blades and guardian of the last Septim heir.
Jauffre is a central figure in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, serving as the Grandmaster of the Blades during the crisis that threatens to overrun Tamriel. Introduced early in the game's narrative, he acts as the primary contact for the player after they escape the Imperial Prison with the Amulet of Kings. Following the assassination of Emperor Uriel Septim VII by the Mythic Dawn cult, Jauffre directs the player to retrieve the artifact and secure the safety of the last heir, Martin Septim. His role is critical in coordinating the defense against the opening Oblivion gates and guiding the protagonist through the initial stages of the main story.

Lore & Background
The lore surrounding Jauffre centers on his duty as Grandmaster of the Blades, an order sworn to protect the Emperor and the Amulet of Kings. When Emperor Uriel Septim VII was murdered by assassins from the Mythic Dawn cult, the covenant keeping the Daedra out of Tamriel was broken because there was no heir on the throne. Jauffre, voiced by Ralph Cosham in the game, immediately entrusted the fleeing player with the Amulet and ordered them to locate Martin Septim at Weynon Priory. He is a veteran leader who understands that the survival of the Empire depends on finding the last bloodline. He is the grandmaster of the Blades and was present when Uriel Septim died, entrusting the player with the Amulet of Kings to ensure the lineage continued.
In Their Own Story
The story begins in a prison cell where Emperor Uriel Septim VII arrives accompanied by Imperial bodyguards known as the Blades. The emperor reveals that the player's cell contains a secret entrance to the city's sewers, an escape route from assassins who have already murdered the emperor's three sons. As they flee into the sewer, they are attacked by the same assassins, and the captain of the Blades is cut down during the fighting. Knowing he is destined to die, Uriel Septim entrusts the Amulet of Kings to the player and orders them to take it to Jauffre. Immediately afterward, one of the assassins kills the emperor. The player escapes into Cyrodiil and eventually finds Jauffre at Weynon Priory, where he confirms the threat and directs the player to secure Martin Septim.
Reader's Guide
Players encounter Jauffre as their first major quest giver after leaving the prison. His primary directive is to locate Martin Septim at Weynon Priory using a key provided by the Emperor. Once the player meets Martin, Jauffre instructs them on how to defend the priory against attacks from the Mythic Dawn cultists. He serves as a hub for main quest progression, often providing updates on the status of the Oblivion gates and the need to close them. The source highlights that he is voiced by Ralph Cosham and acts as the grandmaster who receives the Amulet of Kings via the player character.
