Jagar Tharn
The Imperial Battlemage who trapped the Emperor and usurped the throne in Arena.
Jagar Tharn is the antagonist of The Elder Scrolls: Arena. In the 389th year of the Third Era, Emperor Uriel Septim VII summons his advisor and Imperial Battlemage Jagar Tharn over concerns of betrayal within the court, and Tharn is revealed to be the traitor: he magically traps the Emperor and his general, Talin Warhaft, in another dimension, disguises himself as the Emperor to usurp the throne, and murders the mage apprentice Ria Silmane, who witnessed the conspiracy, before she can warn the Elder Council.
Lore & Background
Tharn summons demon minions to replace the Emperor's Guard. The only way to stop him is the Staff of Chaos, which holds his life force and which he has split into fragments scattered across Tamriel. In the Imperial City the player touches the Jewel of Fire with the Staff of Chaos; this destroys both, releases the Emperor and, because the jewel is where Tharn had stored his life force, kills him.
