Background
Kind, witty and politically savvy, she is the Emperor's current favourite. When her daughter fell ill she heeded Maomao's anonymous warning to stop using a lead-based face powder, and Lingli lived; Jinshi then made Maomao one of her ladies-in-waiting and her food taster. At the garden party the poisoned soup that reached her table had been meant for Consort Lishu. Pragmatic about her role, she bears no real ill will towards the other consorts. Her second pregnancy was a breech presentation; Maomao brought in Luomen to help, and the labour went safely. Her ties to the Western Province helped make her Empress.
