Background
At nine her father sent her to be a consort of the Former Emperor; Ah-Duo and her husband, then the crown prince, protected her and came to treat her as a daughter. After the Former Emperor's death the new Emperor brought her back as a high consort at fourteen, in title only, to keep her from being used as her father's political pawn. Honest but naive, she was bullied by her own ladies-in-waiting. At the garden party her food taster switched the bowls, so the soup poisoned for her went to Gyokuyou's table; the poisoner was Fengming, who feared that Lishu's story of nearly dying from honey as an infant would reveal how Ah-Duo's son had died. Lishu is allergic to mackerel. She later leaves the Rear Palace for the Red Plum Village, where she raises ducks.
