The empire of The Apothecary Diaries, founded by the Queen Mother and her three warriors.
The Country of Li is the primary setting of The Apothecary Diaries, a nation on the eastern side of a continent ruled by the Emperor from the Royal Capital. It borders at least three countries: Anan to the south, and Shaoh and Hokuaren to the west.

Background
According to legend, Li was founded by the Queen Mother, who came from a distant land with three warriors, married the local chieftain and bore the first emperor; the warriors founded clans that became governors of the three major provinces, and the character for Li shows a plant (the Queen Mother) above three swords. Besides the Central Province around the Royal Capital, the named provinces are the cold Northern Province, once governed by the Shi Clan, and the hot, dry Western Province, governed by the Yi Clan and now by the You Clan.
Li's economy rests on agricultural and raw-material exports and on maritime trade, with wealth concentrated in the capital. It is a patriarchal society in which women cannot become officials, and indentured servitude binds courtesans, maidservants and eunuchs. Its name can refer to the lychee, and the fan wiki describes it as heavily based on imperial China, drawing on several dynasties including the Tang.
