Desert

The Desert is a biome composed mainly of Sand Blocks and cacti.^[1] Every world has a main Desert area with an Underground Desert beneath it, and may also contain smaller surface-only patches called Dunes.^[1] Sandstorms occur when wind speed exceeds 30 mph, spawning special enemies and pushing the player downwind.^[1] A minimum of 1500 Sand Blocks, Hardened Sand Blocks, or Sandstone Blocks is required for an area to be classified as a Desert biome, which alters the water's hue and the backdrop.^[1]

Heat distortion makes objects in the Desert look blurry, and the water there is turquoise.^[1] An Oasis mini-biome, containing Palm trees and a sizable water pool, may appear in a Desert.^[1] The Corruption, Crimson, or Hallow can take over a Desert, turning its sand into Ebonsand, Crimsand, or Pearlsand.^[1]
