Floating Island
Floating Islands and Floating Lakes are floating structures located well above the main land mass, up to the Space layer.[1] Because of their elevation, Harpies appear before Hardmode and Wyverns after, and the player experiences weaker gravity.[1] Cloud and Rain Cloud blocks, plus Cloud Walls in the background, support both kinds of structures.[1]
Floating Island
A Floating Island contains a mass of Forest land and a house-like structure made of Sunplate Blocks, Disc Walls, and Glass Walls.[2] Each world has at least one Floating Island, with a maximum of six in large worlds.[2] A Skyware Chest is always present on a Floating Island, and it contains one of four special items: Shiny Red Balloon, Starfury, Lucky Horseshoe, or Celestial Magnet.[2] There is a 1/3 probability that the Skyware Chest holds a Sky Mill, and a 1/40 probability that it holds Fledgling Wings.[2]
Floating Lake
Floating Lakes can rarely contain Water Chests, and they may spawn too low for sky fishing in large worlds.[3] Fishing in Floating Lakes yields sky-only catches like Damselfish, Sky Crates, Azure Crates, and certain quest fish such as the Cloudfish.[3]
Tips
Floating Islands can be located using Gravitation Potions, a Depth Meter with a staircase, a sky bridge, or a ricocheting projectile like Meteor Shots.[4] Floating Islands catch Fallen Stars, and areas where Fallen Stars rarely fall may have an island above.[4]
