Guide
The Guide is the first NPC a player typically meets in Terraria, appearing near the player when the world is created.[1] He offers advice through the “Help” option and displays crafting recipes for items shown to him via the “Crafting” option.[1] The Guide spawns before any house is built, but will move into the first house constructed; if killed, he requires a proper house to respawn.[1] His damage starts at 8 / 12 / 14 and increases as the player progresses.[1]
He uses a Wooden Bow for self-defense, starting with Wooden Arrows and switching to Flaming Arrows in Hardmode.[1]

Living preferences
The Guide likes the Forest biome and dislikes the Ocean biome, with no loved or hated biomes.[2] He likes the Princess, Clothier, and Zoologist as neighbors, dislikes the Steampunker, and hates the Painter.[2]
Shimmered form
Submerging the Guide in Shimmer or spraying him with the Shimmer Gun transforms him into a Shimmered form, which is purely visual and reversible.[3]
Tips
The Guide has no negative consequences from being unhappy, and the best placement is in the Glowing Mushroom biome with the Truffle.[4]
Names
One of the Guide's possible names is Andrew, named after lead developer Andrew Spinks; killing a Guide with that name drops the Green Cap.[5][6]
Advice
The Guide's advice text changes based on the player's inventory and game progression, and some lines vary by platform.[7]
