Eater of Worlds
The Eater of Worlds is immune to lava.[1] The Eater of Worlds is a worm boss themed around the Corruption that appears before Hardmode.[1] It is composed of multiple segments, each with its own health, rather than being a single entity.[1] Destroying a body segment in the middle causes the worm to break into several smaller worms, each having its own head and tail.[1]
Defeating the Eater of Worlds is the sole method to get Shadow Scales, and it is one of the few ways to get large amounts of Demonite Ore.[1] The Eater of Worlds is the Corruption equivalent of the Brain of Cthulhu from The Crimson.[1] The Destroyer is the Hardmode mechanical boss that corresponds to the Eater of Worlds.[1]

Summoning and spawning
The Eater of Worlds appears after every third Shadow Orb is broken in a world with Corruption, or it can be summoned by using Worm Food in the Corruption or Underground Corruption.[2]
Expert Mode
The Eater of Worlds takes 80% less damage from certain projectiles and explosives in Expert Mode.[3]
Aftermath
After defeating the Eater of Worlds, the Tavernkeep begins to spawn as the Unconscious Man, Meteorites can land, and the Dryad can move in if she could not already.[4]
