Wall of Flesh

Defeating it permanently converts the world to Hardmode, introducing new biomes, enemies, and equipment.[1][2] Only the eyes and mouth of the Wall of Flesh can be damaged; the eyes have lower defense than the mouth.[1] The Wall of Flesh is the last boss before Hardmode begins.[1]

Summoning

The Wall of Flesh spawns at least 75 tiles away from the player and moves in the direction of the player.[3]

Behavior

The boss occupies the entire screen vertically and slowly sweeps across The Underworld, forcing the player to keep moving.[4] Its speed rises as its health falls, reaching 17 mph in normal mode and 41 mph in Expert mode when health is very low.[4][5]

Aftermath

When killed, the Wall of Flesh always drops the Pwnhammer, which is required to break Demon or Crimson Altars to generate Hardmode ores.[6] In Expert Mode, the Treasure Bag contains a Demon Heart that grants an additional accessory slot, but only one can be used per character.[6]

Hardmode

After the first victory, two diagonal bands of Hallow and Corruption or Crimson appear in a V shape from the world's top down to the Underworld's bottom.[2]

Trivia

The Wall of Flesh is one of two bosses that require a living town NPC to be summoned; the other is Skeletron.[7]
