Blazing Sword

Shionne's master core made steel: the burning blade only the painless Alphen can swing.

The Blazing Sword is Alphen's secondary weapon in Tales of Arise: a blade so powerful that it burns the hand of whoever wields it, the physical manifestation of the astral energy within Shionne's master core. Shionne's cooperation is required for it to be used.

Background

Shionne could draw the sword before meeting Alphen but could not wield it. While she, Alphen and the Crimson Crows escape the Zionne Mine Tunnels she is shot in the chest with an arrow and the master core's energy bursts from the wound; Alphen grips the arrow, pulls out the sword and wipes out the nearby Renans. During the assault on Glanymede Castle she grants him permanent access, telling him that as long as she is with him he can use it. He loses the sword when Vholran Igniseri kidnaps Shionne after the Mobile Fortress Gradia, and regains it when he reaches her at Saxleoh Temple in Pelegion.

With the Blazing Sword, Alphen's Iron Blade Boost Attack becomes Burning Wave and he gains Flaming Edges, powerful Fire-elemental martial artes; every use costs him a portion of HP, though it cannot KO him and leaves him with 1 HP. Outside battle the sword removes obstacles blocking the party's progress.
