Mystic Artes

The Over Limit finishers of Tales of Arise, unlocked through story events and campfire talks.

Mystic artes are the hidden and most powerful artes that many characters throughout the Tales series can use in battle, performed only under specific conditions and usually shown with an anime-style cut-in of the character's face. In Tales of Arise they require the user to be in the Over Limit status.

Background

A character's first mystic arte in Tales of Arise requires them to connect with an arte while the player holds down any two of the arte buttons. The second is learned in Alphen's case after a storyline event and for the other party members after he has five campfire conversations with them; it requires connecting with at least five artes in succession before holding down two arte buttons. Enemies can also use mystic artes in their Over Limit modes. Unlike the series norm, the mystic artes of Arise are not fully cinematic, so characters can potentially dodge or guard their way through an attack, and most enemy mystic artes need a charge period before release, during which players can damage them and prevent the arte.
